We are currently seeking a dynamic, full-time Planner Forester/Supervisor to lead and oversee operations in British Columbia. This position will be based in our Strathnaver office, which serves as a central hub for our regional operations. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing all aspects of forestry planning and operations, including block planning, appraisal analysis, permit acquisition, contract management, and quality control. Reporting directly to the Woodlands Manager, the Planning Forester role involves extensive coordination with First Nations, government systems, and internal departments, with key responsibilities including:
- Coordinate block planning and layout programs.
- Perform appraisal analysis and manage permit acquisition in compliance with environmental and legal requirements.
- Oversee contract management and quality control.
- Work with First Nations on stewardship processes and relationship-building.
- Engage with government officials and third-party stakeholders.
- Coordinate operations with other internal departments.
- Manage road deactivation, rehabilitation, and grass-seeding.
- Handle other post-harvest management and planning aspects.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and technical skills as key success factors:
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT), Forester in Training (FIT), or Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of BC Forestry Professionals (ABCFP).
- Minimum of 2 years experience in forestry planning and permit acquisition.
- Preference for candidates with silviculture and operationally related experience.
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with current technology and forestry applications.
- Knowledge of current BC forest legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Valid Class 5 Driving License and safe driving record.
- Outstanding problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Salary is commensurate upon level of experience, competitively in the $75,000 to $95,000 range as a starting wage, with a comprehensive benefits/pension package, and plenty of room to grow within the company.
